FAQ

ATV-Blue Lagoon

No, this combo gives you the option of not going to the lagoon so it’s not included. Reservations to the lagoon can be made at the Blue Lagoon’s website and choosing entry at 16:00 would be optimal.

Yes, Grayline handles the transport to the lagoon where you’ll meet up with the ATV guides and you can take their hourly return bus back to the city if you prefer not to go to the Blue Lagoon.

Our online booking system, Bokun, is a very reliable system which automatically reserves your seats from a pool of availability for each tour.  Once you’ve completed your reservation you should receive an email from the system with a ticket showing your tour date and information on pickup location and time, or if you choose to travel to the farm yourself, in which case the ticket shows what time to arrive. If you do not receive an email very soon, check your junk mail folder or contact us in case the email address was input incorrectly.

When booking a combo tour, the system automatically books the tour with each operator respectively. Our partners have been operating these tours with us for years, some decades, resulting in smooth transitions between companies.

New city regulations require us to use bus stops in certain areas.

If your residence isn’t in the menu it’s likely either new or falls under a no-pickup zone. Please either pick To be determined and put your location in Special requests, we’ll then let you know if it needs to be changed or if we can pick you up there, or choose one of the nearest bus stops.

The bus stops are numbered in our dropdown menu and the locations can be found here: Bus stops

Please Note: As of July 15th, 2017 all tour bus traffic will be severely limited in the Reykjavik city center area and pickup inside the area that the above bus stops surround will not be possible.

Day At The Farm

We typically have homemade vegetable or bean/pea soup and bread, followed by coffee/tea and usually cakes or sweet bread.

Under normal circumstances: No. We have several routes to choose from but primarily use three main routes depending on season and weather. In the winter season heavy snow might drive us to use the same circle route, though in opposite directions.

Yes, the Icelandic horse is technically a pony (we’ll never admit it though) and the maximum weight is 120kg (240lbs).

The age limit on our Laxnes special tour is 7 years, although exceptions can be made if the child has riding experience. Please email us before making a reservation if this is the case.

The Icelandic horse just happens to be one of the nicest breeds of horses in the world. They’re gentle and easy going and do not kick or bite as a general rule so if you were ever going to challenge yourself, this is your chance.

The morning tour finishes with dropoff at 12:30 – 13:00.  If you’re on a tight timetable we recommend catching the Grayline Airport Express bus departing their terminal at 13:00. If you are unsure though, please contact us by email and we’ll help you figure it out.

Just north-east of Reykjavik, about a 20 minutes drive from the city center. The exact location can be found on our website under Map or searching for Laxnes Horse Farm on Google Maps.

No, our timetable only allows us to pickup in Reykjavik center or nearby hotels.  If you are staying in nearby towns, the capital area has pretty good public transport and we could meet up in Reykjavik.

Please note that this excludes Mosfellsbær, where the farm is located. We can pick you up anywhere in that area.

Golden Circle

Return to the city is usually between 18:00 – 19:00 depending on road conditions and traffic.

The Golden Circle express tour, which is the second part of the combo, is operated by Grayline and the bus size varies on a daily basis. Grayline basically uses the optimal bus for every group, which varies from small shuttles to large buses depending on the number of participants.

Laxnes & Puffins

The Atlantic Puffin is one of three Puffin species in the world. It is well known for its bright and colourful beak.  The Puffin is a migratory animal, and only comes to land once a year to nest. Usually between May and August.
It digs a burrow into the ground where it lays the egg. Puffins are extremely good divers, being able to dive down to 60m for food. It is well adapted to life in the water, but is a clumsy flyer.

Laxnes & Silfra

We strongly recommend bringing long underwear, thick socks, suitable clothes for the weather of the day and contact lenses if you wear glasses.  Silfra is quite cold and having something dry and warm to change into never hurts.

Laxnes & Whales

If you´re not using pickup service for the whale watching (and/or horseback riding) all our tours depart from Reykjavik´s Old Harbour (location)  and the departure time is indicated on your voucher/confirmation. We ask that all our passengers arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure for check in and boarding (recommended time is 30 minutes to be safe).

All whale watching tours are weather dependent, and may be subject to cancellations. The captains will make their decisions based on many years of experience and always keeping in mind passenger safety and comfort.

We can reschedule you for another day, but please call us to make sure we have availability next time you want to try.

In case of cancellations due to unfavorable weather conditions and you are not able to reschedule, you will receive a full refund (note: if you are using your “free ticket to try again” this does not apply)

We can never guarantee sightings as we are working with wild nature and animals. We always do our best to provide a great service which includes taking you out on sea to explore the nature and its wonders out on Faxaflói Bay.

If your tour does not sight a whale, we offer you another ticket for free that is valid indefinitely.

Yes, while the riding part is only ever cancelled due to extreme weather, conditions at sea are sometimes such that whale watching can be unsafe or just plain choppy, making everyone seasick. If that’s the case you’ll be notified and given a choice:

  • Doing the part that’s not cancelled and either moving the cancelled tour to a later date or get a refund for said tour
  • Moving the whole tour to a later date
  • Canceling the combo and receive a full refund

Our daily tour is designed to work for everyone. Each tour has several guides on hand to make sure everyone gets to have a fun and enjoyable experience. The tours typically start out slowly while everyone gets used to their horses and then the pace picks up. Depending on the group, we then stretch out the group or split it up entirely if there are riders that only wish to walk.

Yes, by default the online booking system assumes no pickup and shows the price for that.
